#AtoZChallenge DAY22: V for VULNERABLE

Day: #22 || Alphabet : || Theme: Emotions || Word: Vulnerable

V

As you all know besides taking up the #AtoZChallenge one more goal I had in mind was to encourage guest posts on my blog some who are my existing blogger friends and others who are not bloggers but are good at writing. And am so happy I managed to have four guest blogs already.

Finally today is the last guest blog in this challenge and that is being done by my dear friend Jennifer from Courage Coach and she has taken up the emotion VULNERABILITY. Thank you so much for your valuable time and writing on my blog. Really appreciate it Jenni ❤ ❤

“You can’t get to courage without walking through vulnerability first” ~Brené Brown

What do you think of when you hear the word vulnerable?  Does this word make you feel uncomfortable?  If so, you are not alone and in fact you are the majority.

When we think about being vulnerable or when we are actually experiencing vulnerability we are living outside our comfort zone because it means taking a risk and the risk is exposing yourself and not knowing what the response will be.  That is definitely uncomfortable.  It could be a good or bad response but what underlies it all is this willingness to expose yourself first and that’s what scares people the most.  Seeing how vulnerable we are can determine how courageous we can be.

Once we do embrace being vulnerable we walk into being courageous and that’s where the magic happens because when we are acting out of courage, we are taking action steps.  That action is layered with fear because that’s what being courageous is all about, it’s doing something despite the fact you are scared.  Otherwise courage would be a walk in the park, no big deal.  Being courageous is showing up to be seen.

Some examples of being vulnerable are; wanting to ask someone out on a date, wanting to express how you feel to someone you truly care about, waiting to hear back test results from your doctor and so on.  When you find the courage to take action on your vulnerabilities, you then walk into hope.  You hope that whatever you courageously do is going to produce the reaction you desire and wish for.  This chain reaction of vulnerability, courage and hope is centered around one thing the entire time and that is living wholeheartedly with an open mind and heart.

Brené Brown is the queen of this topic and if you haven’t seen her TED Talk video about vulnerability, I highly recommend you see it.

It’s a game changer 🙂

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity, innovation and change” ~Brené Brown

I would like to thank my sweet friend Sneha for asking me to be a guest blogger on her site during the A to Z Challenge.  “Thank you so much” 😀     I hope we can meet one day soon, Sneha! 😉

Much Love❤

  1. Showing our vulnerable side to others is often by our own fear of what others might think about us.
Sometimes those are people who we don’t even care about, like a random stranger who passes a demeaning comment on your youtube video.
And sometimes those are people who are close to us,like friends or family.
In his iconic book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’,Stephen Covey mentions something which has resonated with me in times when I was required to be vulnerable.

“Ironically, you’ll find that as you care less about what others think of you,you will care more about what others think of themselves and their worlds, including their relationship with you.”

Of course it doesn’t mean that we should ignore the feelings of our close ones when they try to connect with us,but this attitude gives us the required objectivity to understand the place from where their words are coming from, and in turn, understand the person themselves better.

I myself am a big fan of Brené Brown.Although the TED Talk which you mentioned was the one which put her on the spotlight,I came to know about her from this following video:

She stresses the importance of vulnerability in this video too,and the way she references the seats in the arena and the fight in the ring is something that will strike a chord with every one of our vulnerable moments.

    And,great post Jen 🙂
Sorry for the long, rambling comment 😛

    1. Hey Raja! I absolutely love your comments and their length! Long comments are the best and you never ramble so keep them coming 🙂 I’m so happy you like Brené Brown too she’s such an amazing storyteller with great perspectives. I’ve seen this video you shared and I’m so glad you did because that quote about the man in the arena is hanging in my condo because I love it so much!! This is the absolute truth when it comes to vulnerability and there’s a quote I also love by Paulo Coehlo “What other people think of you is none of your business” I think it’s awesome because it helps to let go of any emotional attachment of what people might say about you. It’s in line with the quote you shared by Stephen Covey another amazing guy. We have the same taste in many things 😉 Keep making great music with Pratyusha I’ve subscribed to both of you now 🙂
Thanks again for stopping by it’s always a pleasure to hear from you 🙂 Hope you’re having a great day!

      1. I can’t agree with you more about Brené Brown being an amazing storyteller. She’s charismatic and funny.

I’m also glad that you like Paulo Coelho.I have read “The Alchemist” at least 15 times by now.
And incidentally, the quote you mentioned is the third wallpaper in my laptop wallpaper slideshow :P.We do have the same taste in many things😉
Happy to hear that you dig my music and Pratyusha’s music.Although I have no doubt in believing that Prats is really good,I kinda secretly hate my own music for some odd reason. But I’m really happy that you like it 😛
I hope you have a wonderful day too! 🙂
